Inverness Yoga and Wellness Center is excited to present a Yin/Yang Yoga workshop to our community on Friday, December 29th from 6-8pm. Just in time to get us in the right mind set before the holidays.
Stephanie Adames, along with guest teacher Ray Smith (200-hour Baptiste Yoga, 150-hour Yin training with Paul Grilley) will be leading us through the ebb and flow of a yin/yang practice. Ray will expertly, lovingly, and gently guide everyone through Yin poses to allow the body to melt into the more passively held stretches while Stephanie will guide everyone in a mindful vinyasa flow to build strength and flexibility. The combination of these two practices becomes a beautiful artful flow to calm and balance the mind and body.
The cost is $25 and welcoming to all. Whether your Yogic practice is beginning, intermediate or advanced, you are encouraged to experience this combination of movement and stillness designed to benefit your entire self.
Yin and Yang are the Taoist concepts, which describe the two relative qualities present in everything. Yin is more internal, passive, cooling and downward while Yang is more external, dynamic, warming and upward. When these terms are applied to yoga, Yin Yoga is a slower practice where
poses are passively held for longer, working on the deep, dense (Yin) connective tissues and joints in the body. Yang Yoga in contrast refers to a more active practice working on the (Yang) muscles and blood flow, building strength, stamina and flexibility.
“The practice of yin/yang yoga helps us learn about stillness in movement and the flow in stillness.” Sarah Powers
